Atakhama: Existence indifferent
27/02/07 || Lord K Philipson
Someone at GD should have their fucken hands cut off and replaced with pineapples for not covering this band earlier in a full length review. How the fuck can we miss out on the possibility to give a band like Atakhama more exposure than just a few lines in the Audio Autopsy of June 2005?! We should bring in the death penalty around our parts for this grand mistake.
These Finns (whaddya know, Finland can do something else than suck at hockey) are very close to completely blow me the fuck away with their insane and blasting death metal displayed on “Existence indifferent”. The obvious influence from Norwegian Zyklon sure shines through and that doesn’t exactly bother me a hella lot since Zyklon fucken kills.
And so do these guys.
Atakhama takes no penises (sorry, I mean prisoners), from the opener “Regiment of inhumanity” to the closing title track, these guys do nothing but blast their way thru and thru my stereo. And they do it with so much style I’m almost surprised. Mostly becoz they are from Finland, and Finland isn’t exactly known for providing blasting, killer death metal bands. Well, they have one now. About fucken time.
Jesus Fucken Manboob these guys know how to deliver their shit. And that is on all fucken levels. Vocalist Jimmy Salmi is not just good, this guy is capable of throwing out the most vicious snarls one second while changing to some insanely awesome growls the other. I’m very, very impressed. And it’s not exactly like drummer Timo Häkkinen is foolin’ around either. Insane speed, groovy fills and stamina like a fucken horse. While these 2 guys do their best to pound their way through my flesh, guitarist Simo Rahikainen and bassist Matti Honkonen joins in for the very same crusade. A crusade to destroy anything and everything. Congratulations, you guys are doing a fucken great job at it too.
These guys are obviously über-talented on all accounts. But, as mentioned countless of times before, where most bands with talent forget how to write good shit, Atakhama lives and breathes that talent as well. Their tunes are catchier than herpes, both in the blasting department and the slower, heavier areas. These guys possess it all. I take a bow, a small one but still a bow. And I bow for very few people.
What’s most frightening is this though:
“Existence indifferent” is Atakhama’s fucken debut album… Man, these guys are destined for great things if they continue in this fashion. They deserve every inch of success.
I’m not giving out good grades for nothing.
8/10.
